Lean Leadership: A Barry-Wehmiller Forum

May 19th-20th, 2009 in Baltimore, MD. - Schedule of Events

Forum Groups:

The most effective learning interactions provide for diverse opportunities to engage with learning content and the people who bring those ideas to action within an organization. The Lean Forum will provide several distinct ways to learn about the Barry-Wehmiller lean journey and the collective experiences of others in attendance.

  • Leadership Curriculum - Continuous improvement requires that individuals throughout the organization think in new ways, behave in new ways, and lead in new ways. Fundamental to this transformation are leadership training experiences that invite and encourage leaders at all levels in the organization to become active participants in the lean journey. Our unique model for Barry-Wehmiller University utilizes internally developed professors to train our next generation of leaders. You will have the opportunity to participate in full-length and overview versions of our courses from our best professors.
  • Forum-Style Interaction - . Whenever we gather people together in a learning environment, we find that they learn just as much through formal presentations as through interactive dialogues with their colleagues from other locations and organizations. Building on Barry-Wehmiller's unique method of building and facilitating conversation, we will create forums around vital leadership and lean topics to explore the insights of everyone in attendance.
  • Experiential Learning - In all development opportunities, we are guided by the statement, "The teacher has not taught until the student has learned." A great degree of learning occurs through experiential opportunities including simulations, games, gemba walks, and exploration of how processes are completed and why. The Lean Forum experience will include multiple opportunities to complete in depth gemba tours of the Hunt Valley facility with our best frontline leaders as guides.
  • Inspirational Sessions - Change requires time and focus in all its forms- but this is most true when we ask people to change. As individuals we are products of our experiences and emotions of the past and our hopes, dreams, and fears of the future. In order to guide people towards lasting change, we must tap into their intellect as well as their emotions and inspire them with a vision of something greater than themselves. Bob Chapman and other leaders will complete the Lean Forum experience by sharing their inspirational visions at moments throughout the session.
